It was early afternoon on a sunny Sunday and I fancied a pint. So we took a walk along the Thames Path to the Mayflower pub for a quick beer and glorious views of the Thames.

A Quiet Weekend In Southwold
Some shots from a relaxing weekend away in Southwold, in between a few beers at the Lord Nelson and dinner in Walberswick.

Barbican Graduation
A weekend visit from the parents, including a graduation ceremony in the Barbican, lunch by the river and Palour Song at the Almeida in the evening (which was excellent, but the ending left me completely confused).

Tarn Hows Cows
For the last walk of the trip, we did an amble around Tarn Hows which got pretty dull fairly quickly (apart from the cows), so we went off piste for some more interesting views.

The Langdale Valley
After two days high up in the fells, we decided to do a lower level walk in the Lagdale Valley, between Little Langdale and Great Langdale. Even though we got quite wet, the trail was superb, with the pikes creating a striking backdrop in the stormy weather as we walked through the valley.

Buttermere & Haystacks
For the second day, we went to Buttermere for a walk around the lake and up Haystacks. In the stormy weather the views were even more dramatic, although it wasn't easy keeping the camera dry.

Place Fell
Our first day in the Lake District, the only day with any sunshine and that only lasted for a few minutes. After driving over Kirkstone Pass in the mist, we ended up in Patermere for a walk up Place Fell. The scenery was spectacular, with rainbows and distant views of Striding Edge.

Waterloo Portrait
Hungover and surrounded by a french school party, ideal conditions for a portrait. This was taken our way to Twickenham, for an afternoon avoiding alcohol.

Lower Slaughter To Naunton
Starting in Lower Slaughter, we walked along the Warden's Way through Upper Slaughter to Naunton. After being passed by a hunt on the way, we stopped for lunch in the Black Horse pub, complete with a poster barring Alastair Darling from entry.

Lower Slaughter To Stow-On-The-Wold
A circular walk from Lower Slaughter to Stow-On-The-Wold, via lots of mud, styles, cows and beautiful scenery. Armed only with directions from a book printed 14 years ago, we fared quite well, getting lost only twice, running into a bridleway closed for maintenance just once and only resorting to following people who looked far more confident of the direction than we did towards the end.

Lower Slaughtor Manor
After a few hours in the car we arrived at Lower Slaughter Manor, in the heart of the Cotswolds, for a long weekend. The hotel was fantastic, our room was huge and the food was wonderful. In between cocktails and relaxing, we spent the weekend walking along some of the typically English trails, all starting in Lower Slaughter.
